Given the declining literacy rate and downward spiral of the American educational system, I do indeed think the short story is dying. So too are the other literary genres. Consumers want "litterture," not literature. It's part of the fast-food mentality where we don't have to wait too long or think too much. Just one unapologetic cynic's opinion . . .

ReplyDeleteFast food, fast talk, fast life - if we could just slow everyone down a bit.
Could it be that there is so much out there, at least we are told there is so much, that we are hurrying to get it all, and don't have time to do much but nibble at samples along the way?
