So not only did you teach me about writing memoir, you also taught me about reading and thinking about how others write memoir. Thank you so much! Rebecca

Fall activities lead us to Christmas classes

My woods in Fall

Fall is here and good things are happening the weekend of October 2 - 3.

Paul Donovan is teaching his second class on Spiritual Writing at Writers Circle in Hayesville, NC on Saturday, October 2, 10:00 until 1:00 p.m.

This class is for those who completed his first class held about a month ago.

The second good thing is the Fall Festival at the John C. Campbell Folk School. This is one of the very best festvals held here in the southern Appalachians. Click here to learn more about it.

Sign up for the Folk School newsletter and keep up with all the fun and interesting things going on there.

The writing program at the Folk School has grown and, I am happy to say, some of the best writers teach at the school. Nancy Simpson, author of the recently released Living Above the Frost Line, Collected and New Poems, published by Carolina Wren Press, serves as Resident Writer at John Campbell. Each year she finds new writers and brings back former teachers of poetry, memoir, fiction, and creative writing.

In December of 2010, I will lead a one week class on the theme of writing Christmas (Holiday) stories. We will use the anthology Christmas Presence as our text. Be sure to get your registration in now.

Christmas is a wonderful time of year to come to the Folk School in Brasstown, NC. Hope to see you there.

Women who live in western NC are eligible to apply for a scholarship for these writing classes. Just contact the Candy Meir Scholarship Foundation. The Candy Fund will also give a scholarship for writing classes at Writers Circle.
