Congratulations, Barbara!

Writers Circle student and Netwest member, Barbara Gabriel's poem Covenant has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize by Scott Owens, editor of Wild Goose Poetry Review.

I feel like a matchmaker. Barbara met Scott at one of his workshops at Writers Circle Studio. Her poetry impressed him, I believe. She submitted her work to Wild Goose and it was published. 

I am delighted Scott sees this outstanding poem and poet as worthy of nomination for a Pushcart Prize. Of course, both Scott and Barbara are winners in my book.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Writing and More

Poet, editor, critic, and teacher, Scott Owens, will lead students through an exploration of a variety of topics and issues regarding the writing process including strategies for invention, revision, and publication. Participants are asked to submit a poem to asowens1@yahoo.com by May 4 for possible use in the revision workshop.

Recipient of awards from the Academy of American Poets and the Pushcart Prize Anthology, Scott Owens is the author of 10 collections of poetry, including his latest For One Who Knows How to Own Land from FutureCycle Press and over 1000 published poems in journals including Georgia Review, North American Review, Chattahoochee Review, Southern Poetry Review, and Poetry East among others. He is the founder of Poetry Hickory, editor of Wild Goose Poetry Review and 234, and vice president of the Poetry Council of NC. Born and raised in Greenwood, SC, he teaches at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, NC.

Owens' Review on our mountain writers

I am always impressed with Scott Owens' reviews on his blog, Musings. He has done the best with this review. Please read what he has to say about Echoes Across the Blue Ridge, edited by Nancy Simpson. He also includes poetry by some of my good friends and fellow writers.

He published, in this issue of Wild Goose Poetry Review, a poem I wrote after my husband Barry passed away.

I hope you will read it and leave me a comment. I know that many of you have felt the same way.

Look Who's in Wild Goose Poetry Review

On his site, Musings, Scott Owens says,
The new issue of Wild Goose Poetry Review went online last Wednesday, and it has already had over 1200 views. The most popular item in the issue so far has been the review of "The Sound of Poets Cooking," with nearly 100 views. The review of Rhett Iseman Trull's "The Real Warnings" has been second most popular with about half that many views, followed by three poems by Maren Mitchell. The most gratifying part of this release for me has been the number of people leaving comments and the conversations about poetry that have developed as a result.
I am delighted to see poems by Maren Mitchell and Brenda Kay Ledford in the present issue of Wild Goose Poetry Review, the online journal edited by Scott Owens. Scott visited our far western part of NC earlier this year and our poets turned out to hear his work. He read at Coffee with the Poets and he heard Maren and Brenda Kay read their poems.
Now both Netwest poets have been published in the Wild Goose.
