One of my favorite poets is Ted Kooser, a former poet Laureate of the United States. He recently published on his site a poem by former NC poet Laureate , Kathryn Stripling Byer.
Click here and read Byer's poem.
This is great! Two of my favorite modern poets together.
So not only did you teach me about writing memoir, you also taught me about reading and thinking about how others write memoir. Thank you so much! Rebecca

I met Ted Kooser several years ago when he was one of the faculty members at the Wyoming Writers conference. I ended up sitting next to him during a book signing. At the time, I was trying to sell my romance novel, We Shall Overcome, and I thought having him near me would bring me more book sales. Such was not the case. A lot of people gravitated in our direction, but most spoke to him and bought his books and ignored me.
ReplyDeleteDuring his presentations when someone asked him a question, he had a habit of making funny noises with his mouth while trying to figure out the best answer. I'm assuming this was because of the mouth cancer he had. I was relieved when he didn't make any of these noises while sitting next to me at the book signing. All in all, meeting him was a good experience.
Thank you, Glenda, for this plug for Ted's column and
ReplyDeletehis poetry. I'm honored to have had one of my poems selected for inclusion, and I hope more mountain and southern poets will have their work featured there.
